If you're concerned about volume when making facial expressions at Ulsan Dermatology Clinic's Juverlook Volume?
Hello.
This is Dr. Seo Jeong-song, the chief director of Arte Clinic in Ulsan.
In the afternoon, when you start to feel tired, you might notice the hollowness in your cheeks more when looking at your reflection in the window or your profile in photos.
Some people say, “It’s fine when I smile, but I’m more concerned when I’m expressionless.”
Ulsan Dermatology Clinic's Juverlook Volume is a skin booster injection that considers both the volume of the face and the condition of the skin. I will calmly discuss the components of the procedure, the injection process, and any discomfort that may arise.

Why should we be cautious about the idea that we only need to fill the hollow areas?
The hollowness of the face cannot be explained by just one empty spot. Factors such as skin thickness and elasticity, the movement of facial muscles, the distribution of fat layers, and the overall balance of facial contours can all have an impact.
Juvederm Voluma is a skin booster injection that contains PDLLA, or poly D,L lactic acid, along with a small amount of hyaluronic acid. It is used to induce a self-collagen production response within the skin, and rather than simply determining the injection site based on the appearance of one area, we assess the skin condition and the extent of volume loss together.
When I explain in the consultation room, I do not decide the direction based solely on the statement, “the cheeks look sunken.” Even in the same area, the approach may vary depending on whether the skin is thin, whether it becomes more pronounced with facial expressions, and whether there are signs of skin texture and elasticity degradation.

How is Juvederm Voluma injected?
Considering the injection site and skin layers, it can be applied to the dermis and subcutaneous layers. The medical staff will determine how much and at which layer to inject based on skin thickness, the location of the sunken area, and facial movements.
We may inject at multiple points using a needle, or we may consider injecting along the space beneath the skin. Each method has different areas of approach and varying levels of stimulation to the skin, so one method does not hold the same significance for all areas of the face.
The PDLLA component is involved in inducing collagen production reactions within the skin, and the hyaluronic acid present assists in the dispersion of the ingredients during the injection process. However, the degree of skin reaction and changes may vary depending on individual skin conditions and lifestyle habits.

Pain and discomfort experienced during the injection process
Pain is often described as a prickling sensation when the needle penetrates the skin, a feeling of pressure during the injection, and heaviness felt in the area depending on the site. Particularly, in areas where the skin is thin or sensitive, the stimulation may be felt more intensely.
To reduce discomfort, it is advisable to discuss anesthesia methods before the procedure, adjust the injection speed and site, and periodically check the level of pain. Rather than aiming to endure the pain, it is better to communicate the sensations you are currently feeling to the medical staff to adjust the injection plan.
After the procedure, you may experience a feeling of swelling, tenderness when pressed, and a pulling sensation. Avoid pressing or massaging the injection site firmly with your hands, as this may cause irritation.
The intensity and duration of discomfort during injection may vary depending on your skin condition. If you are currently taking any medications, have a history of allergies, or have had uncomfortable experiences after previous injection procedures, please inform the medical staff in advance.

How much redness and bruising can we expect?
After the injection, you may experience redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, and small injection marks. These reactions can occur during the process of the needle passing through the skin and the substance being injected, and they may appear differently in each individual.
However, if the pain worsens, or if there is increasing warmth and a wider area of redness, or if there is any discharge or pus, you should consider the possibility of infection. If a hard nodule persists for a long time or if red papules continue, it is necessary to differentiate between inflammatory nodules or granulomatous reactions.
If your skin turns white or takes on a purplish appearance accompanied by severe pain, you should also consider the possibility of vascular-related complications. If you notice such changes, it is advisable to inform the medical staff and discuss the treatment direction.
If you experience symptoms of an allergy such as hives, shortness of breath, or swelling of the lips and tongue, contact a medical institution immediately.

✔ Juvederm Voluma is a skin booster injection that contains PDLLA and a small amount of hyaluronic acid.
✔ The injection site and method are determined based on skin thickness, the extent of hollowness, and facial movements.
✔ Swelling and bruising may occur, and severe pain or color changes should be discussed with medical staff.
At Juvederm Voluma, it is important to understand not only the volume effect but also the pain experienced during the injection process and the reactions after the procedure. I find it meaningful to address skin conditions and discomfort signals when providing explanations.
